When Jamaica-based record label, Film Noir, debuted “Girls That Dance,” the lush, and soulful synth heavy first Single from Masego and Medasin‘s The Pink Polo EP, I knew then that the artist/producer duos collaborative project was going to be something special. With the release of the their second funky single, “Shut Up & Groove,” things we’re solidified and all that was left to do was to wait for the greatness to appear. Today, it does as Billboard premieres Masego & Medasin’s 8-track EP.
As expected, the incredible body of work by the Kingston-born, Virginia-based multitalented artist and his Dallas-bread producer/partner, Medasin, is quite remarkable. The live instrumentation alone on The Pink Polo EP will make you want to play each and every track at least a dozen times before moving on to the next. The way that Medasin’s effortlessly blends his production with, with Masego’s soulful vocals and brand of Trap, House, Trip-Hop, EDM and Future Bounce infused sound – which Masego calls ‘TrapHouseJazz’ – is simply amazing.
“I wanted to lead the wave of future jazz, so I created TrapHouseJazz music,” Masego tells Billboard. “I played sax and trap-scatted over Medasin’s beats; it’s ignorance meets elegance.” Sure to join the ranks of other regional buzzmakers like GoldLink, D.R.A.M., Kali Uchis, Sunny & Gabe and DP in the DMV and Post Malone out in Texas, take a listen to Masego & Medasin’s The Pink Polo EP below!
