Mixtape Review: Nitty Scott, MC – Doobies x Popsicle Sticks

Nitty Scott, MC has been making major moves and buzz since she dropped her last project entitled , The Cassette Chronicles, which I loved! Last week, she finally dropped Doobies x Popsicle sticks mixtape to keep listeners in tune until we get The Boombox Diaries from her. Compared to her last project you can notice even more hunger. Last time around she basically gave us an introduction of who Nitty Scott, MC is, and now she spits even more fire than before. Yeah, I know MANY of you never heard of her until the BET Cypher and when she had that trending topic spot on Twitter but she has projects out.

Anyhow, since March when her last project dropped that I reviewed a lot has gone on. She’s opened for Q-Tip, Kendrick Lamar, met Rah Digga and more! The first track, “Doobsicles” gives you the behind the scenes on what she’s experienced and overall reaction to her growing success. The beat on this track brings you back to the 90s which is always a good thing as it’s chill, but does not take away from her lyrical content. I love that she always reminds us that she is an everyday person mentioning her family and being a dedicated fan to other artists. Overall, this is great opening track to set off the mixtape.

“Tell Somebody” is definitely one of my favorites from lyrical content to production everything flows well together with the smooth touch of vocals from Mike Maven on the hook.

See I bent the track over// beat it like a drum// finger fuck the English language until she cum// put the rhythm to a nickel //tickle its’ syllables//juicing up the literal till all the similes trickle//

Right off the bat she shows off her lyrical strength. I definitely feel that her background in creative writing contributes to her wordplay as well as delivery. Also, the slight break of her at the end of the track that kind of serves as an interlude is a great lead into “Auntie Maria’s Crib”. For those of you who are not familiar with why she has MC added to the end of her name she elaborates about that on the ending of the track. Now we’re at track four, “Bullsh*t Rap”.

//I never let this game turn me into a clown//they so afraid of heights trying to be down//

Right here, she lets it be known that she’s a true Indie artist and has no intentions of allowing her style to change because as she told you in the last track she is an MC, not a rapper. With the next track, Nitty does something we haven’t really got from her “Sun-Kissed” is somewhat of a love story. This was something I’m sure many didn’t expect as so far we’ve been used to her just spitting bar after bar exhibiting her ability and dope flow. Man oh man, the beginning of “Walk Like A Duck” is funny! Whoever did those impersonations was spot on to acting like those broads we all know of that are simply as she calls em, ducks! Just a track about females who make a bad name for themselves pretty much.

“FeminiNITTY” is a great track as she hops on several different beats to pay her respects to some of her influences as well as those females who paved the way in the Hip Hop world. All through this track her flow is too dope!!! The delivery is great even with the beat continuously changing it worked very well. ANYONE who says Nitty is not dope needs to listen to this track because she went all the way in, point blank. To finish out she has a Mick Boogie remixed track which is the ideal closeout.

In essence, Nitty shows us that she can hold her own without the need of features upon features. Also, I forgot to mention the phenomenal artwork for the project. Lately, there has definitely been a lack of creativity when it comes to the artwork of artist’s projects, and Nitty Scott MC , brings us raw art!!! All that digital composed artwork is so played out. Personally, I think anyone could do it if we put enough time an effort into that, correct me if I’m wrong. So huge shouts to Jennyrose Bergantinos for that! Still, this project is different from her last. We discovered who Nitty is by her giving us a taste, and now we got the whole package. Beat selection was great and everything meshed well together. Additionally, the few clips at the end of a few tracks helped give us insight and bring us into the next track. With all that being said, support Nitty Scott MC!!! She is not just another female rapper, she speaks about true life situation not all that glitz and glam like well you know. LOL . She is an emcee and a dope one at that for just turning 20.

I would like to say “Thank you Nitty for representing not just young females, but young people who are trying to progress and become successful individuals”.

RATING 4.5 out of 5.
